Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI), formerly known as Bangalore Medical College (BMC), is a premier government medical institution located in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Established in 1955 by Dr. Shivram and Dr. Mohammed Shafi Mekhri, BMCRI has grown to become one of India’s leading medical colleges. Situated on K.R. Road near City Market, BMCRI is one of the ten government medical colleges in Karnataka and holds a reputation for academic excellence, clinical exposure, and research contributions. The institution celebrated its golden jubilee in 2005–2006 with major upgrades, including the inauguration of a digital library and Basavarajendra Auditorium. In 2006, it was granted autonomous status, and in 2007, it was selected for upgradation to AIIMS-like standards under a centrally funded ₹1.2 billion initiative.
