FMGE June 2025 Results Released: Pass Rate Decreased to 18.61%; Around 30,000 Candidates Did Not Pass.

The latest Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) results have revealed worrying numbers for foreign-educated doctors willing to practice in India.

The exam, scheduled on July 26, 2025, by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), saw only 18.61% of candidates clear it. This is a sharp drop compared to December 2024, when the pass rate was 29.62%.

Key Numbers:

Total Registered

To pass FMGE, a candidate must score at least 150 marks out of 300 (50%). The test is conducted twice a year, in June and December, for Indian citizens and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) who earned their medical degrees abroad. Without passing, they cannot register to practice medicine in India.

Trends and Concerns: FMGE pass rates have often fluctuated, with June sessions historically showing lower success rates.

 For example:

June 202310.20%
June 202
20.90%
December 202429.62%

The June 2025 numbers continue this trend of lower mid-year results. Experts believe there are two main reasons:The exam is tough, even compared to NEET PG. The quality of education at many foreign medical universities (especially in certain countries) is not up to the standard expected in India.

What’s Next for Candidates? Those who did not pass can try again in upcoming sessions, but the low pass rate has once again sparked debates about whether Indian students should be more careful in selecting overseas medical colleges and whether more support should be given to prepare them for the FMGE.
