Hindu College, Shree Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), and St. Stephen's College have emerged as the frontrunners in the first phase of the commencement of graduate seats for the academic session 2025-26 of Delhi University, where maximum cut-offs have been made in the humanities, economics, and science streams.

The university releases the minimum qualifying marks (cut-off) for each course and college publicly on the basis of the marks obtained in the Common Eligibility Test (CUET). This year Hindu College recorded the highest cut-off in the general category for B.A. (Hons) Political Science with 950.58 marks out of 1000.

University has invited a total of seats

This year, the university has invited 93,166 seats as against the total scheduled 71,624 graduate seats, indicating that, like the previous admission cycles, there is a possibility of internal transfers and re-rejections in the coming cycles too.

A senior official of the university told PTI that this high number of invitations is based on the aspirations of the previous years, where most of the seats are transferred between colleges. These admissions are spread across 79 graduate programs in 69 colleges, which include various categories like general, obese, educated, non-resident, Sikh minority, educationally challenged, Kashmiri migrants, single girls, and orphans (male and female).

Some of the top scores in the humanistic stream include the B.A. program (history + political science) at Hindu College with a cut-off of 936.18, English (Hons) at St. Stephen's College with 926.93, psychology (Hons) at Lead Shri Ram College with 926.53, and political science (Hons) at Miranda House with 925.98.

Most of the top courses humanities.

The cut-off for most of the top humanities courses is well above 900, indicating tough competition. In the commerce stream, SRCC maintained its old dominance with the highest cut-off of 917.43 for B.Com (Hons). This was followed by Hindu College with a 912.21 cut-off, leading Shree Ram College with 906.37 and Hansraj College with 901.71.

Zakir Hussain Delhi College (evening)'s overall achievement score in this program was 683.38, which reflects the wide participation in the institute. In the Beekom program, Kirodeemal College recorded the maximum number of 883.99 seats, while Shyama Laal College (evening) registered the least number of seats.

Among science courses, St. Stephen's College led the way with a cut-off of 834.08 for mathematics (Hons). Hindu College had the highest score of 678.44 for zoology (Hons), while St. Stephen's had the highest score of 578.76 for physics (Hons).

Unlike humanities and science programs, which are evaluated out of 1,000 marks based on the top four subjects, most science courses are evaluated out of 750 marks based on the top three subjects. Mathematics and computer science are exceptions, which are evaluated out of 1,000 digits.

CUET UG scores

The graduate admission process is managed through the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS-UG), which takes into account the CUET-UG score, reservation criteria, and applicants’ preferences.

During the preliminary period, the university issued 93,166 seats for a total of 71,624 available seats, indicating the possibility of significant expansion and restructuring—a trend seen in previous admission periods.

The seat allotments cover 79 undergraduate courses across 69 affiliated colleges, encompassing a wide range of reservation categories, including Unreserved (UR), OBC, EWS, SC, ST, Sikh Minority, Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), Kashmiri Migrants, Single Girl Child, and Orphan quotas.

As of 9:40 PM on July 20, 72,659 candidates had confirmed acceptance of their allotted seats. Out of these, 14,939 applications had been formally approved by colleges, according to an official university statement. Remarkably, within just two hours of the allocation list being published, 27,533 applicants had already accepted their seat offers.

The deadline for seat acceptance in this round is 4:59 PM on July 21, with colleges required to complete the approval process by July 22 and fee payment due by July 23. The university has also shared detailed, category-wise allotment statistics.

Admission to performance-oriented programs such as Hindustani and Carnatic Music, Percussion, Physical Education, and Fine Arts will take place in the third round. Candidates are advised to visit the respective college websites for information on trial dates and schedules.

The second list of seat allocations will be published at 5 PM on July 28, and the academic session for first-year students is set to begin on August 1. Under the Single Girl Child category, a total of 1,325 seat allocations were made. Meanwhile, 259 orphan applicants—comprising 127 girls and 132 boys—successfully secured seats in the first round.
