Assam NEET UG 2025 Counselling Round 1 to Begin on July 24

According to an official notification released by the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Assam, admission counselling for the Government Medical and Dental Colleges of Assam (Round 1) for NEET UG 2025 will begin on July 24, 2025 with an entirely online process for admission to the 1st Year MBBS and BDS courses based on the 85% of state quota seats for the academic session 2025-26.

This announcement has provided clarity and relief to the thousands of NEET 2025 qualified candidates of Assam who have been waiting for updates regarding the commencement of the admission process.

What is Assam NEET UG 2025 Counselling Round 1?

The Round 1 for counselling of the Assam NEET UG 2025 is the starting point, and the most important stage, of the state level medical admission process. The process is for eligible candidates to register for counselling, and to enter and lock their preferences of colleges and courses as a result of their NEET UG 2025 rank. As a result of Round 1 of counselling, the first list of provisional allotments for MBBS and BDS seat will be made public for enrolment into state run colleges.

Who Can Participate in the Counselling?

All candidates who:

• Qualified NEET UG 2025 on May 4, 2025

• Names appearing in the amended Assam NEET merit list 2025 (released on July 15, 2025)

• Fulfils the eligibility criteria as stated in "The Medical Colleges and Dental Colleges of Assam Admission Rules, 2017 (Amendment up to 2025)," are entitled to take part in the Assam NEET UG 2025 Counselling Round 1. The total number of candidates in the Assam NEET UG 2025 merit list is 19,823.

The special categories (Rs-20). SC/ST/OBC-MOBC (NCL), Moran, Motak, TGL/EX-TGL, Koch Rajbongshi, Chutia, Tai Ahom, Physically upset (PwD) are also entitled to participate. However, the OBC/MOBC creamy layer has to register under General category.

Document Verification for Special Quota Candidates

Candidates applying under special reservation categories—including:

  • Freedom Fighters
  • Martyrs of Assam Movement
  • Victims of Extremist Violence
  • Ex-Servicemen & Serving Defence Personnel
  • Sports Quota

must physically report for document verification on July 18, 2025, at the DME office in Khanapara, Guwahati, between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Only verified candidates from these categories will be allowed to participate in the online choice filling.

Revised Assam NEET UG Merit List 2025 Published

DME Assam published the revised NEET UG 2025 Merit List on July 15, 2025, with 19,823 eligible candidates, which is less than the provisional list of 19,809. Students who follow the process to change their category could have request until July 11, 2025 and submit the required documentation and filled out application at the DME office.

About the Counselling Process

The Assam NEET UG 2025 counselling is expected to run through 5–6 rounds, depending on the availability of seats. It follows a hybrid model:

  • Online for registration, choice filling, merit list, seat matrix, and allotment result.
  • Offline for document verification (special quotas) and reporting to allotted colleges.

An announcement regarding NRI quota counselling will come at a later date.
