NEET SS
NEET-SS Counselling is conducted for admission to Super Specialty courses including DM, MCh, and DrNB Super Specialty programs in medical institutions across India. The counselling process is conducted at the national level based on the merit obtained in the NEET-SS 2026 examination. Admissions to these super specialty courses for the 2026 admission session are carried out through the NEET-SS 2026 examination (to be held on 11 & 12 December 2026) followed by centralized counselling.
There is a common national counselling process for all Super Specialty seats, including:
โข DM courses
โข MCh courses
โข DrNB Super Specialty courses
The counselling is conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
NBEMS conducts the NEET-SS examination, while the MCC is responsible only for the counselling and seat allotment process.
โข Conducting online counselling for 100% All India Quota Super Specialty seats
โข Allotting seats based on merit, choice, and eligibility
โข Publishing seat allotment results
โข Managing counselling rounds and reporting procedures
Candidates must regularly check the MCC website for counselling schedules, notices, and updates.
โ ๏ธ Note: In the case of Tamil Nadu, counselling for in-service candidates under a 50% reservation is conducted separately by the State of Tamil Nadu, in accordance with the Supreme Court order dated 16 March 2022 in the case of N. Karthikeyan & Others vs State of Tamil Nadu & Others.
The NEET-SS 2026 counselling schedule will be announced by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) after the declaration of NEET-SS 2026 results. As in the previous session, counselling is expected to be conducted in two rounds of online seat allotment for Super Specialty courses including DM, MCh, and DrNB SS programs. The stages of each round are listed below; exact dates will be updated as soon as MCC releases the official schedule.
๐ Commencement of Academic Session: The date of commencement of the Super Specialty academic session for 2026 will be announced by the authorities along with the counselling schedule.
NEET-SS 2026 counselling will be conducted by MCC for DM, MCh, and DrNB Super Specialty programs. The official seat matrix for 2026 will be published by MCC before counselling begins. Until then, the tables below show the seat distribution of the previous session (NEET-SS 2025) for reference, and will be updated once the 2026 seat matrix is released.
โน๏ธ Unlike DrNB, DM / MCh training is dominated by academic medical colleges and specialty institutes rather than corporate hospital chains.
Candidates seeking admission to DM, MCh, and DrNB Super Specialty courses must first appear for the NEET-SS examination conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). NEET-SS 2026 will be conducted on a computer-based platform at various examination centres across the country. Only candidates who qualify in the question paper group relevant to their feeder specialty are eligible to participate in counselling. Candidates who qualify in a particular question paper group are allowed to select super specialty courses that fall under that group and for which their broad specialty qualification is an eligible feeder qualification.
NEET-SS is conducted as the single eligibility-cum-entrance examination for admission to Super Specialty medical courses. The examination covers admissions to the following programs across the country:
โข All DM (Doctorate of Medicine) courses in India, including those offered by private medical colleges, universities, and deemed universities.
โข All MCh (Magister Chirurgiae) courses across medical institutions in the country.
โข All DM / MCh courses in Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) institutions.
โข All DrNB Super Specialty courses, except the Direct 6-year DrNB Super Specialty programs.
Through NEET-SS, candidates compete for Super Specialty seats across participating institutions, and admission is granted based on NEET-SS merit and centralized counselling.
The following institutions have traditionally not been included under NEET-SS for admission to DM / MCh courses:
1. All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi and other AIIMS institutes offering Super Specialty programs
2. Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh
3. Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry
4. National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru
5. Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Thiruvananthapuram
These institutes conduct their own admission processes for Super Specialty programs. Candidates should confirm the final list in the NEET-SS 2026 Information Bulletin.
NBEMS has invited applications for NEET-SS 2026 through an official notice dated 29 October 2026. The examination will be conducted on 11 December 2026 and 12 December 2026 in computer-based mode at various examination centres across the country.
For queries related to application form submission, refund of failed transactions, or payment gateway issues, contact the NBEMS Candidate Care Support at +91-7996165333, or write to NBEMS through the helpline portal accessible through applicant login.
For queries related to eligibility or documents, candidates can write to the NBEMS Communication Web Portal. The Information Bulletin with eligibility criteria, fee structure, and scheme of examination is available on the NBEMS website.
โ ๏ธ Note: The question paper group-wise schedule, shift timings, and admit card dates for NEET-SS 2026 will be updated once released by NBEMS. Candidates should regularly check the official NBEMS website.

Candidates must possess a recognized MD / MS / DNB degree in the feeder specialty to be eligible for NEET-SS 2026.
The cut-off date for completion of the qualifying PG degree for NEET-SS 2026 is as specified in the NEET-SS 2026 Information Bulletin available on the NBEMS website (natboard.edu.in).

Candidates who qualify in NEET-SS 2026 must register online on the MCC website to participate in counselling. Important points regarding the counselling scheme:
โข Counselling applications can only be submitted online through the MCC website.
โข Candidates should fill the application form themselves.
โข A candidate can submit the counselling application only once.
โข Submission of multiple applications may lead to cancellation of candidature.
โข Registering for counselling does not guarantee seat allotment.
Candidates must ensure that all information provided during registration is correct and accurate, as MCC will not modify any information once submitted.
The first round includes the following steps:
1. Online registration with payment of registration fee and security deposit
2. Choice filling and choice locking
3. Seat allotment process
4. Publication of Round-1 results
5. Reporting to the allotted institute
Candidates allotted seats must report to the allotted medical college within the specified time.
Round-2 acts as an upgradation round. Steps involved include:
1. Fresh registration for candidates who did not register in Round-1
2. Fresh choice filling
3. Seat allotment
4. Publication of Round-2 results
5. Reporting to the allotted institute
Candidates who wish to upgrade their seat must submit willingness for upgradation during Round-1 reporting. If a candidate is allotted a seat in Round-2, the seat allotted in Round-1 is automatically cancelled.
As per Supreme Court judgments, there is currently no reservation in Super Specialty courses, including:
โข DM
โข MCh
โข DrNB Super Specialty courses
However, based on a Supreme Court order dated 16 March 2022, the State of Tamil Nadu provides 50% reservation for in-service candidates, and counselling for these candidates is conducted by the Tamil Nadu State authorities.
Qualified candidates must register online on the MCC website to participate in counselling. The registration process includes:
1. Online registration on the MCC portal
2. Payment of counselling fees
3. Creation of login credentials

Choice filling must be done carefully because choices once locked cannot be modified. If candidates fail to fill choices after registration, they will not be allotted any seat.
Candidates must pay two types of fees during registration. The amounts below are as per the previous counselling and may change; the final fee for NEET-SS 2026 counselling will be as notified by MCC.
The security deposit is refunded after completion of counselling, provided the candidate does not violate counselling rules.
